Classics and Performance Project GT 1995 Ford Mustang Title Image

Project GT

I purchased the Project GT 1995 Mustang in March of 2003 because I needed a reliable commuter. The ‘94-’95 Mustang has my favorite chassis of all time: supple yet controlled, refined and stout, the way it drives is to me: perfection. Not only do I like the way the chassis performs, but I also think the ‘94-’95 Mustang is one of the best-looking cars of all time.

So why then, if I think this car is so perfect, would I make this a project car? Well...it could be faster. The engine is a nice performer, but is really puny and underpowered for the chassis. Obviously, it is a candidate for a project...possibly the perfect project. Just less of one then many other kinds of cars I could get my hands on. That being said, I don’t want to disrupt the very Zen-like and balanced state of the car. So the project will start small and end small. The idea is to provide a powertrain performance level that better compliments this masterpiece of automotive engineering. Of course, what is “small” and “complimentary” depends on your own point of view ;)

Stage 1

Stage 2

Chapter 1

The Beast in the Beauty

I think that for many enthusiasts, the 5.0 legend began for the Mustang in '87 with the LX and ended in '93 with the Mustang Cobra, but there are other noteworthy cars in that lineage that are overlooked and one of those is the '94-'95 GT.

Chapter 2

Vacation

I love road trip vacations, especially when my car drives right – but if my car drove right, this wouldn’t be much of a story.

Chapter 3

The Stallion is in the Details

It’s amazing what sorts of gains can be made by dialing in a combination – even a stock combination.

Chapter 4

One Tired Pony

It all started with a clutch replacement...

Chapter 5

Flip-flop...Flip?

I’ve discovered that one of the biggest problems with any project – especially a dormant project – is changing directions.

Chapter 6

Strokin’ the Pony

Initially the second stage for Project GT began with the Project LX Mustang.
