Fox Body Mustang Restoration: 1979-1993
The key to excellent results in the paint booth is meticulous prep work.
Here, Scott Brideau of Car Concepts in Boise, Idaho is using compressed air and a tack cloth to prep for a final coat of primer on the hood of Bruce Couture's 1984 Ford Mustang Convertible, nicknamed Bruno. The result of Scott's work is gorgeous, as you can see from the photo of Bruno on the front cover of Fox Body Mustang Restoration: 1979-1993.
In Chapter 3, Jim Smart takes you through the highlights of the extensive process used by Scott to turn the '84 Mustang into a bright, red '86 — and as noted in the book, convertible Fox Bodies have a number of unique challenges all their own.
Thankfully, I don't own a convertible because the bodywork on the Survivor '87 LX is going to be challenging enough. Of course, I'm planning to do as much of that work myself as possible — an endeavor Smart is wise enough to advise against. However, because of the special issues I'm facing with the Survivor's rust problems and the creative solutions I'm working out to deal with them, I don't have much choice but to handle it on my own — and really, that challenge is all part of the fun for me.
