I used a toothbrush on the rust spot in hopes of removing what little rust could be gotten off with such a thin coat of the Gel applied. I wasn't able to remove much rust, but I was able to safely remove the Gel. For the painted portions that the Gel covered, I simply dipped a soft paper towel in water and softly rubbed the Gel off.
